Through the vision of the client, BSV international, this contemporary, residential development makes efficient use of a narrow and constrained site. Aimed at young professionals, the 11no. one- and two-bedroom apartments are located in the heart of Chelmsford City-Centre

Street scene

Before Scene Architects were involved, Chelmsford City Council had refused the project. Scene Architects used this to our advantage as the refusal allowed us to respond to the previous constraints and create an optimal proposal for the site.

Front and side elevation

Split into two blocks, both built forms are linked via an open-air walkway. The contemporary use of metal-mesh balustrades allows natural light to flood a central courtyard, whilst also acting as a screen from the adjoining neighbouring development. The screen was then envisioned as Corten Steel to match the Cladding panels, this material was employed as a visual reflection of Chelmsford’s rich history in Industry and Engineering.
