700 London Road-Chalkwell

Chalkwell

Architecture // Urban Design // Interior Design

Formerly the site of an unattractive and unloved 3-storey 1960s commercial building, the proposed Apartment development at 700 London Road sought to implement a high-quality contemporary design more befitting of the corner site and which benefits from views over Chalkwell Park to the west and of course the sea to the south. Although the existing building was of little Architectural merit, it was felt that the existing structure could be retained and this formed a fundamental part of the design process whilst also being an extremely positive factor from a sustainability point of view. The contemporary design employed high quality materials including Marley Eternit Linea cladding providing a smooth and crisp calico finish. Steelwork protrudes elegantly from the buildings elevations to form balconies and frame the set-back upper storey providing the architectural flourish demanded by this prominent corner site.
